Jaroslav Šuchman specialises in the law of contracts, personal data protection, EU law, gaming law, consumer protection, advertising law and other regulatory areas, and law-making advisory.

Currently, he is leading the firm’s data protection expert team. In addition to this role, he serves as Data Protection Officer (DPO) and Whistleblowing Officer (WBO) for several companies through his work with the sister company, Fairdata Professionals a.s. Jaroslav continuously develops his legal expertise by integrating the aspects of privacy law and GDPR compliance into his other areas of practice.

Prior to joining our law firm in 2010, he received his LL.M. degree at the Columbia Law School in New York. Before the post-graduate course he worked for five years at the Parliament of the Czech Republic as Head of the European Union Unit, Senate Chancellery, where he was instrumental in building mechanisms and providing for the daily parliamentary monitoring of the EU legislative procedure following the accession of the Czech Republic to the European Union, and building and developing a framework for the interaction between the Senate, the Czech Government and EU institutions. He was co-responsible for the contents and course of the parliamentary dimension of the Czech Republic’s first Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2009.

  • advising in strategic and ad hoc projects on personal data processing compliance in various traditional as well as highly innovative business sectors (configuring individual procedures regarding processing, evaluation and compliance with the duty to inform on data breaches, support during inspections or representation in administrative proceedings)
  • drafting comprehensive contracts for the development and follow-up of client’s serial production of innovative  energy storage solutions
  • numerous cases of advising clients when contracting with their business partners and localizing of customer documentation for the purposes of offering products and services in the Czech Republic
  • supporting a foreign provider of an on-line lottery as the first such foreign entity to acquire regulatory permission in the Czech Republic
  • advising a major international company in the gaming system testing and verification business when applying for an authorisation in the Czech Republic
  • various cases of legal assistance rendered to stakeholders on specific matters (companies, non-profit organisations, public authorities) when drafting amendments, preparing analyses and comments, as well as legal-technical advisory
